Scout Section COVID-19 Information

We know that Scouting has taken many different forms during the COVID-19 Pandemic and it can be confusing to understand what you can and cannot do. This page has been put together to provide you with the most current information for the Scout Section within Victoria.

Scout Section COVID-19 Update (15th November 2020)

We are now one state and we are beginning to open up! There are lots of opportunities to do more traditional scouting.

This advice has been aligned to the Victorian Governments advice and uses the same terminology. Please also refer to the Scouts Victoria advice which this has based on which can be found at https://scoutsvictoria.com.au/about-us/news/covid-19-update/

For specific information about how to operate within Scout Halls or Outdoors, please refer to the state advice.

Scout Section Activities:

  • Overnight camping is available, please see state covid site for details.
  • Day activities or outdoor nights activities in patrols can resume outdoors
    • Pioneer Hikes
    • Badge work
    • Geocaching
    • Chalk chases
  • Leadership courses can operate indoors subject to rules and limits.
  • Those working on their ASM may wish to use this opportunity to complete as much as they can and explore with their unit council any adjustments
    • You could do a series of day hikes with everyone returning home at night
    • You could organise patrol based activities to complete the various parts of the award scheme outdoors
  • A COVIDSafe plan must be in place, please refer to Scouts Victoria website for details.
  • Those completing their ASM should review the COVID ASM provisions as well as the extension policy and talk to their unit council to make adjustments where necessary if they need to do so.
  • Day activities or outdoor nights activities in patrols can resume outdoors

    • Geocaching
    • Chalk chases
    • Navigation
  • Cooking / Food – it is possible to run cooking activities however there are some extra considerations. For the full picture see the state faq.
  • Cohen Shield – Cohen shield can be run in small local patrol based arrangements.
